Description
YAAMBA MARIMBA ENSEMBLE
Formed in the late 80's, YAAMBA marimba ensemble has played about every type of gig imaginable. Musically rooted in traditional African music arranged and played on the mbira and later adapted to marimba, YAAMBA takes delight in playing and often switch instruments to share the lead story among many of the band members while the others support the lead by playing soprano, tenor, baritone and bass marimbas.
YAAMBA owes deeply felt thanks to many people for bringing us to our music. Among them are Dumisani Mairare, from Zimbabwe, and his students and our teachers Larry Israel, Claire Jones, and Sheree Seretse, and countless others too! It has been a long time since full blowin' marimba has been heard in music clubs. Remember the likes of the Bombay Bicycle Club in Pioneer Square and the Bistro back in the U-District? It's right time to hear it again, NOW at the Triple Door. The groove is back and dancing brings you closer to the spirits, come on down Seattle and find out why YAAMBA has been at it this long.
